Nicole & Ariya

How did Ariya propose? Ariya proposed on May 23, 2013 – the day before my birthday – on the beach at the Four Seasons The Biltmore in Santa Barbara, California. He had arranged for a picnic on the beach, and popped the question there.

Your standout memory of the night: Our first look – when Ariya walked into the Presidential Suite at the Waldorf to meet me.  Brian has a great shot of it.

Where did you go on your honeymoon/where are you planning on going on your honeymoon? We went to the Turks & Caicos for a few nights after the wedding. We are planning to go to New Zealand and Bora Bora for our honeymoon in October 2014.

Alana & Aaron

How did Aaron propose? Aaron’s proposal was a total surprise.. I was not expecting it at all. It was a Friday night, I just graduated from my masters program and he told me we were going out to celebrate. He told me his dad was coming in from Charleston for the weekend to join us. I was instructed to meet him (and his dad) downtown at the Greenwhich Hotel. When I showed up, Aaron said his dad ran to Duane Reade to pick up some things he forgot. While we were ‘waiting’ for him, he mentioned he had another surprise.. He got a room for us for the night! None of this seemed out of the ordinary. Aaron is a very romantic guy, always surprising me in special ways. So.. We get to this beautiful room (lined with flowers and candles) and my first response was, “wow, this hotel is amazing.. They really know how to impress”. We move into the room and I notice a bottle of champagne standing on ice. Again, whether I was naive or completely unaware, I assumed this was part of Aaron’s plan to ‘celebrate’ my graduation. Not once did I ever think he was proposing, until we sat down on the couch. He started telling me how he felt and then he reached over to the drawer beside the bed and pulled out a box. AND then I knew! I was in total shock, took me a few moments to understand what was going on before I answered, yes!  Immediately following the proposal we went to our favorite restaurant, Blue Hill, where the second surprise of the night happened. My 9 month pregnant sister and brother in law were sitting at the table!

Honeymoon Location: We went to San Francisco and Napa right after the wedding, it was a perfect honeymoon.

One piece of advice that you could give to other couples: It’s really nice to not see your fiancé for a few days before the wedding. When you see them for the first time on the wedding day, all of the stress and chaos melts away and you remember why you’re marrying this person and that they day is really about just the two of you.

Wedding Dress: Monique Lhullier – Kleinfeld Bridal

Groom’s Tux: Our good friend Jake Mueser, from Doyle Mueser custom made Aaron’s tux.

Bridesmaids’ Gift and Groomsmen’ Gift:  I bought different pieces of jewelry for each of my bridesmaids, I wanted to make it as personal as possible. Aaron gave his groomsmen ties and cuff links, also designed by Doyle Mueser.

Something Borrowed and Something Blue: My something borrowed came from Aaron’s great Aunt Shirley (whom I adore). She lent me a lace hanky that has been passed down in the family for generations.
